The ears are a common source of self-consciousness for men and women of all ages. An otoplasty can enhance the shape and size of the ears so that patients can feel confident about their facial features. Younger Image Plastic Surgery Center offers this treatment to residents of Washington, DC, Arlington, and nearby communities in Maryland and Virginia from our offices in Vienna, Woodbridge, and Rockville.
What is an Otoplasty?
The ears play a large role in the balance of the face. Men, women, and children with large or protruding ears often feel self-conscious about their appearance. An otoplasty, or ear surgery, can correct the size and position of the ears to create a more balanced appearance. Patients often feel more confident after their ear surgery, enjoying well-proportioned ears that complement the rest of their facial features.
How Much Does an Otoplasty Cost in Washington, DC?
The average cost of an otoplasty is around $3,800, but will vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary to deliver your desired results. During your consultation, we will evaluate your cosmetic goals to develop a personalized treatment plan. At this time, we will be able to provide the full cost of your treatment. To schedule any treatment, we ask for a $1,000 deposit that is nonrefundable. Two weeks before surgery, the patient will have a pre-op appointment where his or her full balance is due to be paid in full.
We offer flexible financing options, including Alphaeon® and CareCredit® to ensure that each patient has access to the treatment that they need. Alphaeon® and CareCredit® pay us in full and the patient pays the financing company a monthly fee. We also accept cash, checks, and major credit cards for your convenience.
What is the Otoplasty Procedure Like?
The otoplasty procedure is fairly simple and takes about one hour to perform. A small incision is made along the back of the ear, along its natural crease. This allows any scarring to blend in with the natural contours of the ears. Through the incision, we will remove excess cartilage and skin to reshape and reposition the ears. Part of the cartilage can then be fastened back to draw the ears closer to the head, correcting protrusion. Afterward, dissolvable sutures are used to seal the incisions and the treatment is complete.
What is Recovery like Following an Otoplasty?
After an otoplasty, the initial recovery period requires about a week of downtime. During this time, there is minor discomfort, but patients are often able to return to work and other activities rather quickly. It is important to avoid sports and other activities that may affect the position of the ears and affect your results. We recommend that patients wear elastic bands over the ears while sleeping for about a month. This ensures that the ears stay in their corrected position and are not damaged while sleeping.
Are the Results from My Otoplasty Permanent?
Generally, an otoplasty can help patients achieve permanent results regarding the shape and position of the ears. However, the ears are one of the few parts of the body that never stop growing. Patients may notice gradual changes in the size of the ears over time, but this growth will have a minimal impact on the results of an otoplasty.
